Sustainability

ESG Commitment

At The Urban, we are dedicated to upholding sustainability and ethical standards by prioritizing Environmental, Social, and Governance initiatives. We recognize the importance of environmental conservation and strive to make positive contributions through partnerships and eco-friendly practices. According to a 2015 study by the U.S. Energy Information Administration, apartment buildings consume a significant amount of energy, with a large portion dedicated to temperature control and water heating. By reducing heating needs and implementing sustainable features, we aim to reduce the environmental impact of our residents' households and lifestyles.

Eco-Friendly Climate Control: At The Urban, we're committed to combining modern comfort with sustainable living. That's why we've integrated Nest thermostats into every unit, you're joining a community dedicated to making a positive environmental impact. Our collective use of Nest thermostats significantly reduces overall energy consumption, demonstrating our commitment to a sustainable, energy-efficient future.

Social Responsibility and Financial Flexibility: We understand that life doesn't always follow a strict schedule. Flex Resident Pay is designed to offer our residents the financial flexibility they need while maintaining our community's stability and integrity. By allowing customizable payment schedules, we're supporting financial inclusivity and reducing the stress associated with rigid payment deadlines.

To achieve our sustainability goals, we have incorporated various technological devices, appliances, lighting systems, and fixtures into our apartments.

Our efforts to reduce our carbon footprint include implementing the following:

Smart Thermostats

LED and Energy-Efficient Lighting

Energy Star Rated Appliances

Motion Light Sensors

eRecycling Initiatives

Water Conservation Initiatives

Low Flow Water Fixtures, Showerheads, Washers & Dishwashers,

Property Recycling Bins

Xeriscape and Drought Tolerant Landscaping Program

No Flower Policy & Turf Replacement to Minimize Water Usage.

Through these initiatives, we aim to minimize our building's impact on the environment and pass on reduced utility costs to our residents through increased energy efficiency.

In summary, at The Urban, we are committed to sustainability and ethical practices through our focus on Environmental, Social, and Governance initiatives.

Our ultimate goal is to reduce the environmental impact of our buildings and help our residents lead eco-friendly lifestyles.

THE URBAN IS TAKING THOUSANDS OF BEES UNDER ITS WING!

We're proud to take part in the great movement for more eco-conscious cities by bringing honey bees to our property. Our thousands of new residents will pollinate the surrounding urban flora during the spring and summer. We'll harvest the extra honey they produce, which we'll be able to share with our community!

WHY?

Our aim is to make people fall in love with all bees and most importantly take action to protect them. The Urban’s goals are to:

• Bond over the unique experience and raise environmental awareness.

• Support pollinator populations within the local urban environment.

• Reconnect our community with nature and sustainability.

WHAT ABOUT STINGS?

It really shouldn't be a worry - bees are not interested in humans. They set out on a daily quest to bring back resources to the colony to ensure its development. Did you know honeybees die when they sting? They lose their stinger and part of their abdomen, so they have no interest in stinging unless they feel their colony is threatened.

GET INVOLVED

Want to learn more or just stay in touch with the beehive project? Here's how:

• Follow our unique MyHive page for updates and to see what Queen Elizabeth and the hive are up to! You can enter your email on the page to "follow the buzz" and get notifications when the beekeeper posts an update.

• This page also has upcoming events in the sidebar, you can plan on meeting the beekeeper at the next inspection to ask questions or even meet the bees!

• We will have two educational workshops each year, hosted by our beekeeper, that will allow participants to learn more about the bees. These events allow us to get hands-on with honey extraction, making beeswax candles, or even handling the bees themselves. Keep an eye out for these event announcements!
